B&H Photo price adjustment: the return-period window, explained

Camera and photo gear is exactly where a post-purchase price drop hurts — the body you bought on Tuesday is $200 cheaper on Friday. B&H is one of the retailers that does something about it: it adjusts to its own price drops within the return and exchange period. Here's how that window actually works, how it differs from the separate price-match policy, and how to claim.

The window: tied to the return period

B&H's adjustment policy (per its own HelpCenter, as of 2026-10-16) is not a standalone "price protection" promise with its own clock — it rides on the return and exchange period. For most merchandise that period is 30 days from delivery, and within it B&H will adjust to its own price drops; refunds go back to the original payment method.

The qualifier matters: 30 days covers most items, not all. Individual categories carry their own (sometimes shorter) windows — certain high-value and seasonal-category items are the recurring examples — so the item's own policy line on the product page governs your specific purchase. Treat 30 days as the general family figure, not a universal one, and check before you count on it.

The match: a separate policy

Price adjustment and price match are different mechanisms at B&H, and mixing them up is the most common confusion:

The match is a pre-purchase negotiation with same-day terms; the adjustment is the post-purchase one that pays you back after a drop. Marketplace and gray-market listings sit outside the match, and the adjustment only ever tracks B&H's own price — a competitor dropping their price doesn't trigger anything.

B&H: the two policies

Two different questions, two different rules — check the tab that matches yours.

30 days for most items

Policy: Price matching + own-store adjustment

B&H adjusts to its own price drops within the return and exchange period — and that clock is the return window, not a separate guarantee. The 30-day figure covers most merchandise, but individual categories run shorter (some high-value and seasonal-category items carry their own windows) — the item's own policy line governs your specific purchase.

Claim starts with: your order number and B&H's own current lower price, requested through its customer service inside your item's window; refunds go back to the original payment method.

Claiming it

Three steps, same order every time:

  1. Keep the order number. The window clock runs from delivery — your order record is the proof of both the date and what you paid.
  2. Watch B&H's own price. Re-check the same item on bhphotovideo.com inside your window; competitor drops and marketplace prices don't count for the adjustment.
  3. Ask through B&H's channels (chat/phone/email) with the order number and the current lower price. If you're weighing adjustment against an unopened-box return — for gear, the return vs. adjust trade-off is mostly about whether you've opened it — the decision math is the same one used in our price adjustment guide.

Same window family

B&H's 30-day own-store adjustment puts it in the same family as Costco (electronics) and Micro Center — the retailers whose windows span the whole Black-Friday-to-Cyber-Monday stretch for a start-of-November purchase. The full retailer-by-retailer table, with the holiday exclusion patterns, is in the Black Friday price guarantee guide, and the Micro Center side of the family is detailed in our Micro Center price match guide.
