Does Target adjust prices after purchase? The 14-day window
Yes — with one boundary that matters: Target adjusts to its own lower price within 14 days of purchase, and since mid-2025 it no longer price-matches competitors at all. One policy went away, the other remains, and knowing which one you're asking for is the whole game.
Own-price only — the boundary
Target's price-match guarantee, which used to cover competitor prices, was discontinued on 2025-07-28 (per Target's own policy page). What remains is the price adjustment: if Target lowers its own price on something you bought within the last 14 days, it refunds the difference. Asking the service desk to match a Walmart listing won't go anywhere — asking it to honor Target's new lower price will.
The 14-day clock runs from purchase (for online orders, the purchase or pickup date). Both in-store and Target.com purchases qualify; the request goes through guest services in store or Target's contact channels with your receipt or order number.

Policy: Price adjustment (own store)
Target adjusts to its own lower price within 14 days. Since 2025-07-28 it no longer price-matches competitors.
Category note: The 14-day window applies across eligible general merchandise; exclusions below (clearance, contract mobile, special promotions) remove specific items rather than shortening the window.

What qualifies — and what doesn't
- Qualifies: the same item, currently priced lower on Target.com or in Target stores, purchased within 14 days, with receipt or order number.
- Doesn't: competitor prices (the match program is gone), clearance prices, contract mobile devices, and items bought under special promotions whose terms exclude adjustment — the recurring exclusion set on Target's policy page.
One Target-specific note in your favor: Circle offers are not coupons in the policy sense — they're a loyalty mechanism, and they apply at purchase independently of any of this. The post-purchase adjustment only ever tracks Target's own ticket price.
How to request it
- Bring the proof. Receipt, order number, or the app's purchase history — the 14-day clock is the thing guest services checks first.
- Show the current lower Target price — the live listing in the app is the cleanest evidence.
- Ask within the window — guest services in store, or Target.com/chat for online orders; the difference returns to your original payment method.
If 14 days feels tight for the season, note that a Black Friday purchase keeps its window open through Cyber Monday week — the holiday math for every retailer is in the Black Friday price guarantee guide, and Target's full rule sheet (stacking, exclusions, sources) is on its rules page.
