Black Friday price match: which stores match (and which pause it)
Price matching sounds like a safety net for holiday shopping — and mostly isn't, because the prices you most want matched are exactly the ones every policy excludes. This page separates the stores that match year-round from the ones that paused, shows the exclusion pattern that swallows Black Friday prices, and gives you the three conditions to check before you queue up for a match.
Why Black Friday is different for price matching
Price-match policies share a near-universal carve-out: limited-quantity, event, and promotional pricing is excluded. Black Friday is made of exactly that. A doorbuster TV, a Special Buy tool combo, a Cyber Monday lightning price — all sit in the excluded bucket at retailers that would happily match the same items' ordinary price in March. Historically this pattern has held across the 2025 terms we track; the 2026 holiday terms arrive with each retailer's ad release.
Stores that match year-round
The documented matchers in our dataset (each with its verified policy source on its rule sheet):
- Home Depot — matches identical in-stock items from eligible competitors, with its Special Buy and holiday promotional prices excluded. Note the policy change on 2026-02-10: the old "beat by 10%" became a one-for-one match.
- Lowe's — the same identical-item, in-stock structure under its lowest-price guarantee, with holiday and event promotional pricing excluded.
- Best Buy — matches local retail competitors and selected major online sellers on identical items, with prices during the Thanksgiving-to-Cyber-Monday window excluded from matching (documented in its price-match policy).
Stores that don't match at all
- Target — discontinued competitor price matching on 2025-07-28 (per its own policy page); it retains a 14-day adjustment against Target's own price drops.
- Amazon — no general competitor price match; its post-purchase relief is the refund-on-price-drop courtesy within the return window, applied case-by-case.
- Walmart — no blanket competitor match (its policy covers specific tool categories like grocery pick-up promo prices); its own-price adjustment under the return policy is the practical channel.
Check before you queue up
Three conditions decide whether a match request is worth making — tick them against your actual item below. The calculator also shows the fallback: even where matching fails, the retailer's own-price adjustment window keeps working for ordinary (non-event) prices.
Check your match before you queue up
Price matching fails on details. Pick the store you're buying from, tick the conditions you can actually confirm, and see where you stand — plus the fallback: this retailer's own price-adjustment window.
Tick the conditions above — all three need to hold for a match request to be worth making.

The fallback route — your own retailer repricing its own drop — is mapped window by window in our price-protection guide. And keep the receipt: an adjustment claim starts with proof of what you paid ( receipt ledger apps make that automatic if your inbox is where receipts go to disappear).
